Question: How to connect a dial-up modem to a Solaris workstation?
Answer: You must do the following:
1. Log in as user root.
In order to enable remote access at root level, the
/etc/default/login file should be edited.
2. Add a # at the beginning of the following line in the file:
CONSOLE=/dev/console.
After the modification, it should look like this:
#CONSOLE=/dev/console.
3. Save the file and close it.
4. Connect the modem to one of the serial ports, A or B.
5. From a Xterm window, launch the admintool utility.
6. From the Browse menu, select serial ports.
7. Select the serial port to which you have connected the modem in
step 4, and from the Edit menu select Modify.
8. In the Template field, select Modem - dial - in only.
9. Make sure the service enable checkbox is marked.
10. Type ANSI in the terminal type field.
11. Select the baud rate to be auto.
12. Click OK.
13. Close admintool.
Your dialup modem is now configured for dial-in connections.
For dial-out or bi-directional connections, modify the Template field
(see step 8 above).

Question: How to define an additional logical network interface in Sun Solaris?
Answer: The commands to set le0:1 are:
1. Type: su to login as root.
2. Type: ifconfig le0:1 up.
3. Type: ifconfig le0:1 <IP address of the Interface> (for
example: 192.168.200.112).
4. Using vi, create the following file: /etc/hostname.le0:1.
5. Insert a line in the /etc/hostname.le0:1 file, with the new
hostsname, for example 2lan.
6. Insert the following line into the /etc/hosts file: 192.168.200.112
2lan.
