2.2 Package Contents
The ASM-40 package includes the following items:
• One ASM-40 unit
• Last Mile Access and Intelligent Modems CD
• CBL-530/449 adapter cable for the ASM-40 units with V.36 interface
• AC power cord or DC power supply connector kit
• RM-28 rack mount kit (if ordered).
2.3 Installation and Setup
ASM-40 is a standalone device intended for tabletop or bench installation. It is
delivered completely assembled. No provision is made for bolting the unit on the
tabletop.
To install ASM-40:
1. Determine the required configuration of ASM-40, according to your
application, and set the DIP switches accordingly.
2. If ASM-40 contains IR-ETH, or IR-ETH/QN interface module, you may have to
open the unit’s case to get access to the jumpers located on the Ethernet
module (see
Appendix B
,
Appendix C
and
Appendix E
).
3. Connect the line (see
Connecting the Line
below).
4. Connect the DTE (see
Connecting the DTE
below).
5. Connect power to the unit (see
Connecting the Power
below).
Configuring ASM-40
This section describes how to configure ASM-40 for a typical application.
Figure 2-1
illustrates the DIP switch location.
Table 2-1
provides details on the
functions of the ASM-40 DIP switches, and their default settings.
Make sure that the power cord is disconnected before performing the DIP switch
settings.
To configure ASM-40:
1. Locate and open a lid on the bottom panel at the rear of the ASM-40 modem.
2. Select the data rate (SW5, see
Table 2-1
for the proper switch settings).
By selecting the data rate, you also define the ASM-40 line coding.
