Cellular Backhaul
With cellular coverage becoming
available in even the most rural regions,
more and more mobile network
operators are resorting to wireless
systems for backhaul of their cellular
traffic. Some estimates indicate that 70
percent of cellular backhaul is wireless,
typically microwave links.
The Airmux system, incorporating RAD’s
small-footprint DXC cross connect, is a
cost-effective complementary
technology to more expensive
microwave wireless connections.
Airmux, together with the DXC,
supports integration of cellular,
monitoring and management traffic.
Several Airmuxes can be co-located at
the BSC to handle incoming traffic from
various remote sites, and the DXC can
aggregate the multiple E1/T1s for
transport over E3/T3 or STM-1/OC-3
circuits.
